When you’re in the thick of sleep deprivation, it can be hard to believe that your family’s sleep will ever improve. Trust me though, it can.

Here are just a few success stories that I hope will show that however tough things are at the moment, there is a light at the end of the tunnel…

“ Louise came to stay with us for 4 nights when we had reached our wits end and were absolutely exhausted following months of broken sleep.

Our 11 month old was waking multiple times a night and not settling easily at 7pm. We were giving him milk in the night, often more than once, despite him eating well during the day. Our evenings were ruined by trying to get him to sleep and with me being a completely anxious and uptight mum staring at the monitor when he eventually did drop off.

During the night, we had been bringing him into our bed in desperation but even that wasn’t working and we didn’t know how to manage it. He was getting too heavy to be held and rocked and so I lost all confidence and started to feel completely helpless and panicked about not knowing what to do when he woke at night. 

From the moment Louise arrived, we felt relaxed with her. She is such a kind and genuine person and really easy company. We decided to leave Louise to it at night, and make the most of the opportunity to sleep. We trusted her completely with our son. She used a gradual method, comforting him rather than leaving him to cry.

Since her visit, he has gradually got better and better, with us keeping up her approach and following her advice, and he has been sleeping through the night consistently now for several nights (long may it last!).  

Louise has 3 children which gave us confidence that she had plenty of experience as a parent and could empathise with how we felt.

“I was recommended to Louise by a friend as I was at my absolute wits end. My son was 13 months at the time. He had been a bad sleeper since birth waking every 1 - 2 hours screaming and inconsolable and out of desperation I would bring him into our bed most nights so I could get a little more sleep but even then he would still wake up just as often.

I was still breastfeeding him to sleep and a few times during the night which I really wanted to stop but didn’t know how else to get him to sleep and stay asleep and was also struggling with day naps too. He was grumpy, tired and miserable most days and didn’t eat much solid food. After over a year of very broken sleep, I was tired and desperate!

I had a Skype consultation with Louise and liked her instantly as she has a wonderful caring manner and made me feel comfortable and reassured. She helped get to the root cause of my sons poor sleeping habits and put in place a plan to help fix it. She never once “told” me what to do; only suggested, supported and made me feel empowered to tackle it head on. She suggested a firm yet gentle approach which I was comfortable with and at no point did she ever suggest leaving him to cry it out which I was very happy about as I did not want to go that route.

After the first week of implementing her plan, he was totally night weaned and the night wakings became easier and shorter and, by three weeks in, he was sleeping THROUGH THE NIGHT from 7pm - 7am in his own cot in his room with ZERO wakings and has now been doing this every single night for 7 weeks and counting (even through teething and illness)...and is also doing a good 1.5 hour nap after lunch. I still can’t believe it and keep pinching myself thinking I’m dreaming!

Just by making a few simple changes that Louise suggested he is now a different baby that LOVES sleeping! He is also much happier during the day and is eating much more solid food which I’m thrilled about.

Louise came to us for four nights to help sleep train our 21-month-year old son. Despite being nearly two, he would still wake up to five times a night, and the only way we could get any sleep was to give him a bottle that would only settle him for a few hours before the next wake up. When we tried going cold turkey with milk during the night, he would scream angrily for up to four hours, waking up our other five-year-old son and causing me and my husband a lot of stress. It was getting worse and worse, and we were all exhausted, miserable and trapped in a vicious circle of night time hell.

We decided we needed help, and I am so glad that we sought it as it has changed everything for the better. Louise was calm, confident and reassuring, offering excellent advice and completely took charge during the night giving us a much needed break. After the first night of going without milk, I felt confident enough to throw out all his bottles, never wanting to go back to them ever again!

Each night from then on got better and better, as Louise trained him to self-settle in the night. The night time waking reduced, as did the time it took to settle him back down - all without a bottle. By night five he slept through the night for the first time ever, thanks to Louise’s advice on how to handle the night times once she was gone. It felt like a miracle after months of terrible sleep.

With proper rest, my son’s behaviour has improved significantly and so has his eating and napping during the day. He is so much happier, as are we! I can’t thank Louise enough for helping us regain control of what felt like a hopeless situation, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone having sleep issues with their child.”

“I was having problems settling my little girl. It could sometimes take me over an hour and a half to get her to fall asleep. She is 4 years old and has additional needs. Because of this I honestly didn’t think it would be possible to sort the bedtime routine out. Although Louise assured me it was something she would be able to help me with, I was slightly sceptical.

Louise met with me and discussed the issues we were having and came round to help me out with the bedtime routine the following week. She has a very gentle and understanding character so it seemed entirely natural to be sitting in bed in my pyjamas and chatting to her.

Louise has lots of excellent tips and advice. She really knows her stuff where sleep and bedtime routines are concerned. She talked me through lots of things I could do to settle my daughter and it was actually much easier than I thought. Miraculously, within 2 nights, she was falling asleep in under 10 minutes.

Louise put a routine in place that is very easy to follow and manageable for the whole family.

“ Louise came to stay with us to help resolve the sleep issues we were having with our seven month old son, Jack. We were having great difficulty getting him to sleep each night and he usually went on to wake up every 1-2 hours. Often the only way we could get him back to sleep was by rocking him and giving him milk. It was exhausting and we were feeling really desperate!

Louise was so reassuring, warm and patient and I immediately felt that Jack was in extremely capable hands. She helped make some adjustments to our daytime routine and we also arranged for her to assist with settling Jack at the beginning of each night, which was really helpful.

Using very gentle methods, Jack was sleeping in his own cot by night two and by night four he only woke up once. From then on he was able to go to sleep by himself in about 15 minutes and he woke far less during the night, if at all. I think the most helpful part was the fact that Jack learned how to self settle so he no longer needs help getting back to sleep. We’ve had the odd tricky night since, but overall it’s been a huge improvement and we haven’t had to resort to milk at night again at all.

We feel much more positive and confident (and well rested!) going forward.”

“ Louise came to us when our son was 15 months old. He had slept through the odd night, but the general picture was that he had made it into our bed from 9pm onwards and one of us had to stay in bed with him.

During those nights, none of us really got quality sleep, including our son who used to toss and turn all night, looking for water (which resulted in a nappy leak every night) or just being up for hours on end for no apparent reason. I had started to dread bed-times and night-times, my husband and I had no time alone to just discuss important household matters and things had generally gotten quite tense. That’s when we decided we needed help.

Louise came highly recommended and we can only confirm that it’s been a revelation working with her. During the 5 nights Louise stayed with us, she taught our son the basics of self-settling and took over in the middle of the night when he would wake up, which was a much-welcome break. It was fun to chat in the evenings as well after our son went to bed and Louise patiently answered all our questions, however odd or repetitive some of them might have been.

I have to say that we felt nervous when Louise left and we did slide back into some old habits at first, but Louise was always available to talk things over and analyse the situation with us. Importantly, she never left us with the feeling of having done something wrong (even when we did) and she just gave us a lot of confidence in our parenting style and routines, tweaking them a little here and there. Her very hands-on advice always made a difference and after about 4 weeks of having started the process, our son has now slept through for 2 consecutive nights and settles himself in his own room.

I should add that her approach also suited us because at no point did she, or did she advise us to, let our son cry it out. Her method is rather based on reassuring both child and parents and creating the trust and relaxed environment that furthers sleep.

We’d like to thank Louise from the bottom of our hearts for all the support, patience and first and foremost, all the confidence she has given us - in our son’s ability to sleep and our ability to help him get that much-needed sleep.
